Project Sam is just beginning, and we're looking forward to creating opportunities for people to come together through art, conversation, and shared experiences.
Our events will celebrate creativity while inviting a little curiosity about what it means to be human: how we see ourselves, relate to others, find belonging, and make sense of the world around us. We believe art can open the door to these conversations in ways that feel natural, welcoming, and sometimes even playful.
Awarded each year
Annual Artist Grant
Each year, Project Sam will award a grant to a San Antonio-area artist to create original work for our annual September exhibition. Our Board of Directors will select Project Sam's Featured Artist based on artistic originality, authenticity, and connection to our mission. The selected artist will create and present new work for the annual exhibition, inviting curiosity, reflection, and meaningful conversations about mental health and the human experience.
Every September
Annual Art Exhibition
Each September, Project Sam will bring together professional and student artists to explore creativity and the human experience. Our Annual Artist Grant recipient will serve as the Project Sam Featured Artist, presenting new work created for the exhibition. The exhibition will encourage creative exchange and invite visitors to discover new perspectives and meaningful connections. All artists are hand-selected by the Project Sam Board of Directors. We do not currently accept applications for this grant.
September 11 & all of Samtember
Samtember 11th Day of Kindness
September 11th is Sam's birthday, and throughout the month of September, affectionately known as Samtember, Project Sam celebrates his curious, creative, playful, and loving spirit by encouraging acts of kindness. Sam knew how much it matters to feel seen, included, and cared for. Through creative activities and community projects, we invite everyone to practice empathy, celebrate differences, and make meaningful connections. Whether participating in a Project Sam event or sharing an act of kindness on your own, there's a place for everyone to take part. Together, we hope to put a little more kindness into the world and carry Sam's spirit forward.
